ATLAS-CPPM Achievements

In the period spanning from 1990 to 1994, the group took part to the then pioneering R&D work around the LHC detectors, focusing on three main activities throughout the design and construction time of the ATLAS detector: the pixel-based vertex detector, the liquid argon (LAr) calorimeter and the event filter farm.

The group played a leading role in the construction of the LAr calorimeter end-caps, took over the responsibility of assembling about 30% of the pixel detector modules (staves) and lead the design and implementation of the event filter farm. The group took part to the intensive test beam campaigns at CERN and was strongly involved in the integration and commissioning of the ATLAS detector. The group played a leading role in the definition of the computing grid for the LHC and contributes to the Tier 2 computing centre hosted at CPPM.
